SharedRoom

Motivation

We are always online,

but we don't talk to each other.

But sometimes we want to know what they're up to.

You never know what they are doing unless you ask them what they’re doing.

Even in a relationship where mutual agreement exist upon letting each other know what they are up to,

you don’t ask nor tell every details such as:
“I’m going to the bathroom.”
“I’m working right now.”
“I need to go to the bathroom.”

What if you have a simulated environment that shows both you and your partner’s situation?

SharedRoom Components

Two rooms (one boy, one girl, it could be two boys’ room depending on their personal preferences) side by side with all the elements that are available in the real world for each user:
Desk, TV, radio, bed, kitchen, bathroom, table, door, window, computer, books, etc
Each user’s mini-me (acts as an advocate for the user).
All above elements could be customized by the user.

Shared room speculations

Automatically detects:
Application in the computer that is currently focused
Weather
Time of the day (to display outside situation of the window)
Whether the user is logged in or not

Manually controlled by the user:
Cooking, going to the bathroom, going to bed, eating, talking on the phone, watch TV

Use case

Whenever they log in to the IM, the application will execute
Tell each other what they are doing by clicking on the relevant element, or the application will automatically detect
Each person can work on whatever they are working on, and check the Shared Room time to time to see what each other is doing

Note:

http://www.cyworld.com is the Korean version of ‘orkut.com. It has a ‘mini room’ for each user, user can buy stuff from the web site to coordinate their rooms
But it’s not interactive, it’s just for displaying purposes. I stole some images from this web site for this project.
